The Legend of King Ravana

Ravana Falls is named after King Ravana, the powerful ruler of Lanka in the Hindu epic, the Ramayana. According to the legend:

King Ravana kidnapped Princess Sita and kept her hidden in a nearby cave, now known as the Ravana Cave.
It is believed that the cave lies behind or near the waterfall, deep inside the forest.
The falls and the cave are both part of Ramayana Trail in Sri Lanka.
